When i have a relaxer in my hair, how should i take care of it after swimming?

You need to use as many chemical free products as you can on relaxed hair since it has already gone through the process of having its bonds broken down by the relaxer. If you use natural products that actually contain butters that can condition your hair, you will be fine. After swimming in chlorine water wash your hair with a natural product, then follow up with rinse of one part water + one part apple cider vinegar mixed together. The smell is strong but it will put your hairs natural ph balance back into place. This makes your hair less apt to break off. I use Mineral Indulgence Almond and Avocado butter shampoo on my hair and Shea and Mango Butter Conditioner. Its fabulous! I avoid chemicals in products as much as possible because of the toxins that are usually used to create them. With relaxed hair, you should try to use as many natural products as you can to counter act hair damage. Also, be careful when buying natural products. Many companies that sell black hair care products are natually ';inspired'; which means their products are not really natural. Look for those that specifically state that they do not use chemicals in their product. There is also an article on exactly what happens when relaxers are used on hair that you might want to check out on http://mineralindulgence.com/When i have a relaxer in my hair, how should i take care of it after swimming?
Women with perms who are going into swimming pools with chlorinated water should fill their hair with “clean” water before entering the pool. This allows the porous hair to be full of plain water, and won’t allow the “chlorinated” water into the hair shaft. This is also a good trick for those with blonde hair who swim frequently. If you really care about protecting your permed hair in the pool or beach you should wear something over it. To avoid serious issues, don't get near a pool too soon before or after a perm. The green-hair story is not a myth. Perm chemicals can react to chlorine in funky ways, leaving hair green, bleached, fried, or otherwise ruined. Even if your hair isn't permed, chlorine can be damaging. Condition your hair before getting in the pool, and wash and condition as soon as you get out. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the water, find a hair clarifier, a stronger-than-normal shampoo designed to remove toxins. Clarifiers are too harsh to use everyday, but using them twice a week should counteract the brittle, dried-out effect chlorine can have. Maybe like a swimming cap or something. You might look funny so this might not be your choice. If i were you I would put my hair in a bun when if I plan to be in the water all the time. Perhaps getting box braids for the summer. There easy to maintain during the summer and your perm will still be there with new growth at your roots. I do it when I go on vacation and I know Im going to be in the water all summer
